Single Sign On: Login into Cyrus using the corporate World Relief e-mail and password account

Introduction

Multi-factor authentication (MFA) is an authentication method in which a computer user is granted access only after successfully presenting two or more pieces of evidence (or factors) to an authentication mechanism.

Multifactor authentication combines two or more independent credentials: what the user knows (password), what the user has (security token) and what the user is (biometric verification).

The use of multiple authentication factors to prove one's identity is based on the premise that an unauthorized actor is unlikely to be able to supply the factors required for access. If, in an authentication attempt, at least one of the components is missing or supplied incorrectly, the user's identity is not established with sufficient certainty and access to the asset (e.g., a building, or data) being protected by multi-factor authentication then remains blocked.

The verification process can either be a phone call to a preset telephone number, a text message to a preset mobile number, or you can use an app, that you would download onto your Apple or Android phone.

Multifactor authentication

What is new?

From October 31st, 2019 you will be using a new feature named Multifactor authentication (MFA) to login Cyrus with your World Relief email address and password. This means that you won't have to use your previous credentials to login Cyrus. Please make sure you know your World Relief e-mail address and password.

It is important to mention that the URL for Cyrus remains the same. The only thing that will change are the credentials you use to login.

Why are we doing this? Which are the benefits?

  • Provide additional security by adding protection when verifying the user's identity for a login.
  • Create a layered defense and make it more difficult for an unauthorized person to access a target such as a computing device, network or database. If one factor is compromised or broken, the attacker still has at least one more barrier to breach before successfully breaking into the target.
  • As a user, you'll have to acknowledge a phone call, text message or app notification, other than just the username and password, to prove your credentials.
  • Such a detailed authentication method offers much better security than mere passwords. This way, even if an attacker hacks your password, it's useless without other information.

What will happen if you forget your password?
